3d Monitors – The newest trend in displays
50 years ago, 3d movies were shown to the public and the reception was quite good. Movie studios began producing many movies in 3d, and they filled up the theaters. But pretty soon, the trend died off. The glasses that you had to wear to watch a 3d movie distorted the colors and could give you a headache. Overall, the 3d movie experience wasn’t worth the hassle.
Skip ahead to now, and the 3d movie is back. Newer technology allows viewers to wear polarized lenses rather than colored lenses. Not only is the effect better and more pronounced, the colors of the movie aren’t distorted and they are much less likely to cause headaches or discomfort. Most new 3d animated movies are being released in both 2d and 3d and even some older movies (such as Toy Story) are being re-released so that everyone can experience them in stereoscopic 3d.
Now, this new 3d tecnology is ready to come home with you. It is now possible to buy your own LCD 3d monitor, put on polarized glasses, and experience nearly all of your favorite 3d games in amazing 3d. Once you try a first person shooter on a 3d monitor, you will never want to go back to playing in 2d again.
3d monitors use special drivers that work with your computer’s graphics card. Most newer ATI and NVIDIA based graphics cards are compatible with the drivers. When any game or 3d application displays objects in 3d, the graphics drivers will automatically render it in stereoscopic 3d. While wearing the polarized 3d lenses, the 3d images will take on depth and appear 3d.
In the same way that LCD replaced big boxy CRT displays, and HDTV is replacing standard definition television, many analysts believe that 3d monitors and televisions will be the next major technology in displays. But it is no longer necessary to wait to experience it, 3d monitors have arrived and are available now.
